Music is for everyone. We want notestoplay.com and the Notes to Play app to work for people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom, captions or other assistive technology.
1. Our goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, the standard used by the ADA and most accessibility laws.
2. What we’ve done
- Every page of this website, and the app’s main screens, are tested against WCAG 2.2 AA with automated tools (axe) on desktop and phone sizes, and passes.
- Everything works with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring and a “Skip to content” link.
- Text meets contrast rules, images have text descriptions, and form fields have labels.
- Pages reflow at 320 px wide and when zoomed to 400%, and animations stop when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Our emails are designed to stay readable in both light and dark mode.
3. The app
The Notes to Play app is tested against the same standard on its main screens (the studio, Mix & Master and the lyric sheet), and passes. You can zoom it, small labels meet contrast rules, buttons are at least 24 px, and custom controls such as the tone pad tell screen readers their value. The keyboard and fretboard use touch gestures for playing, so pinch-zoom is off on the instruments themselves. It’s a visual music tool, so if something doesn’t work with your setup, please tell us.
4. Tell us about a problem
If something is hard to use, please tell us: write to [email protected] or use Send feedback in the app. Tell us the page or screen, and the device and assistive technology you use. We reply within 2 business days and will help you get what you need another way while we fix it.
5. Who you’re dealing with
Notes to Play is made by Smart Man Media, LLC (Florida, USA).
